This Sunday our members are being asked to vote on bringing the Grace Brethren Church in Lancaster under the leadership of Grace Church. This is a process that has taken us about two years. We have bathed this idea in prayer every step of the way and have done our due diligence preparing a plan that we believe will work, with God’s help.
In case you are still asking the “why” question, though, here is how I would answer it:
Jesus’ marching orders to His church were impregnated with a sense of mission. That mission is to make disciples of all nations, starting in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, Samaria, and the ends of the earth.
Jesus entrusted that mission to a handful of followers who were still fearful of the authorities and had no confidence whatsoever that they could succeed. Yet, within one generation, they had succeed at preaching the good news of the gospel throughout the known world at the time. And they did this by relying only on the power of the Holy Spirit and prayer!
As leaders of Grace Church we wrestled with the same hard questions many of you are wrestling with but at end when it came to the final vote, the only question that truly mattered was this: Is this something God wants us to do? And when that question was considered with all of its weightness, your elders voted unanimously to recommend the Lancaster Grace Initiative to the congregation.
We trust that you will also prayerfully consider this question before God and vote as He leads you. In the end, we know He will receive the glory and my prayer is that this will happen as we reach a new group of people for Christ and coach them to live for Him with purpose and abandon.
Yours, for the Gospel of Christ,
